1970s: Foundation and Early International Success

1971: Sidmouth in Bloom Committee formed to enter Britain in Bloom campaigns.
1972: Trial run conducted.
1973: First competitive entry; awarded the Sargent Cup for Best Small Town in the South West.
1974: Awarded the West Country Award for Merit.
1975: Awarded the Sargent Cup (Best Small Town in the South West); Entente Florale winner (Best Town in Europe); potential award for Best Small Town in the British Isles.
1976: Received four additional awards for Best Town in the British Isles following the 1975 success.
